Sometimes I work with a business that I’m just so, so excited to be a part of. 350Layne is one of those businesses.
Once I met with Hannah and Cassie (H&C), I knew that this would be a fun project. They are incredibly talented and offering Ketchikan a service that is very much needed!
As a side note – it’s such a shame how often I talk with a new client and find out that I’m not the first designer they’ve worked with. So often, I hear stories of a previous designer making big promises and then just never following through. Hearing these stories always bothers me so much. I want the experience of designing your brand to be something you love and for the end product to be something that feels a part of you.
Unfortunately, 350Layne was one of these businesses that had a previously rough start with their branding, with another company. We were able to turn it all around and get them the brand they were looking for, though.
Step One: Discovery
All LCM projects start with a Discovery phase. This is the time I get to know you and your business. This Discovery phase included face-to-face interviews and surveys.
Step Two: Logo
From our surveys, I was able to determine that H&C wanted a professional image for their business that reflected the look and feel of their designs. It was also imperative that it made you think of deliciousness. After several concepts and several rounds of edits, we finalized the new 350Layne logo, and everytime I look at it, I want cake!
Step Three: Visual Identity Package
LCM specializes in VIP packages – Visual Identity Packages, that is. These packages detail your entire brand and provide all of the materials you need to showcase your brand. Several logo alternatives were developed, as well as any social media profile/cover/etc. graphic they could ever need. And all associated fonts and colors were provided.
All the electronic files were delivered on a custom 350Layne usb drive (because all of my clients get little surprise gifts). We also designed custom business cards, complete with different images of 350Layne creations on all of the backs.
Step Four: Website
From our Discovery phase, I knew that the 350Layne website needed to be simple. As a smaller business, they actually need to control how much business they get, so any specialty features of the site had the potential to bring in too many new customers. So, the goal of the site was simply to expand the reach of their online presence.
Using the beautiful photography they already had, along with our new Visual Identity, we developed a one page, professional site to introduce 350Layne to their market.
The site is a WordPress site. It’s completely mobile-responsive. It’s also easily expandable, so at any time, we can add more pages, a blog, special ordering features, etc.
Step Five: Wrap Up
For smaller sites and smaller businesses, I provide a guidebook for your new website, allowing freedom to control your site and never be dependent on a designer.
I provided 350Layne with a guidebook to guide them through making simple edits/additions to their site. The guide also provides all of the site logins, account information, email setup information and more.
